Hand Held Hollywood officially ceased operations on September 17th, 2024. The site will remain online for archival and research purposes. The App Directory continues to receive updates as needed. If you’d like to contact Taz, the contact form is still functional. We also invite you to join Taz’s mailing list here.

We’ve finished our move, and added new features!

Welcome (back) to Hand Held Hollywood.

We’ve finished the move to our new servers, and given the site a fresh coat of paint. While most of the tweaks may appear to be cosmetic, we’ve made HUGE changes under the hood which should make updating the site, and adding new features significantly easier.

Here’s a quick sampling of some of the changes we’ve already made:

  • We’ve totally replaced the outdated comment system with Livefyre. You can log-in using any social network, and tag your filmmaking friends.  Comments from the old site are currently being ported over, so nothing will be lost.
  • Sharing HHH has become a little easier thanks to the Share buttons that will now appear below each post.
  • We’ve replaced the old discussion area with new feature-rich filmmaker forums.
  • Posts are now properly tagged for easy filtering. You’ll find the new tag cloud in the sidebar.
  • We’ve set up a system that will allow us to host app giveaways!

We’re also working on importing all the old comments, and re-coding the App Directory (coming soon).

Enjoy the new site, and feel free to share any thoughts or suggestions!

Heading Into the Sunse— Hang on. I have a call.

Dear iPhone fanatics and filmmaking friends, This will be the final post for Hand Held Hollywood. To loyal HHH readers, I’m sure this feels somewhat overdue. Probably because it is.

Shang-Chi Director Directed From His iPhone

I enjoyed reading this brief ScreenRant story, so I thought I’d share it here. It describes how Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, was forced to direct an important scene via his iPhone while in the hospital for the birth of his child! Sadly, it doesn’t divulge the details of that unusual workflow, but it’s an excellent reminder that we’re all toting the world’s most versatile piece of filmmaking gear in our pockets and purses!
