A real Anamorphic lens for your iPhone? Yup!

UPDATE: The Kickstarter campaign has reached its goal in just a handful of days (nice work, everyone), but you can still get in on the early-bird pricing by becoming a backer! If you’re serious about shooting footage on your iPhone, you likely already own a lens accessory or two (such as the olloclip or iPro Lens). While there’s no shortage of iPhone friendly wide-angle, fisheye, macro, and telephoto lenses on the market, one of the most important lens types has been noticeably absent — the Anamorphic Lens. Thankfully, that’s about to change! Moondog Labs has officially unleashed their iPhone 5/5S

Padcaster Mini + iPad Mini = Maximum Awesome

If you’ve read my book, you know I LOVE my Padcaster.  With its aluminum frame, urethane insert, and oodles of accessory mounting options, the Padcaster is the most flexible and professional way to shoot video with a full-sized iPad.  My ONLY complaint with it is that it’s nearly impossible to shoot in a public space without at least 5 people coming over to ask about it — that’s especially true in Los Angeles. Now, Josh Apter, the mad genius behind the Padcaster want to bring that same level of awesome to the iPad Mini, and you can help make it happen. The Padcaster Mini for

Just a little over 2 days left to grab XiStera (tripod mount & lens kit)

For a $25 Kickstarter pledge, you can get your hands on your very own XiStera multitool (but you’ve only got a few days left).  This little doodad will give your iPhone 5 portrait and landscape tripod mounts, as well as an external lens kit (fish eye, wide angle, macro). If that weren’t enough, the tool also provides a bottle opener, portrait and landscape stands, a key chain attachment, an ear bud wrap, a capacitive stylus, and even an option for an external LED light. If Dr. Frankenstein had an iPhone, and didn’t feel like getting a GLIF, olloclip, MicroLite, and

The Hoodi Sunshade for iPad comes to Kickstarter

I’ve got three questions for you… 1. Do you remember this year’s MacWorld/iWorld? Sure you do! 2. Do you remember the Hoodi magnetic sunshade? I hope so, because it was one of the coolest things I found on the show floor (even though it wasn’t officially being exhibited). In a nutshell, the Hoodi blocks the sun from reflecting on your iPad’s screen — making it an ideal accessory for outdoor shoots. Naturally, it can block indoor lights as well. Ok, last question… 3. Would you like a Hoodi of your very own? If you answered yes to these questions (especially

ArchMount gives your iPad a secure, portable tripod mount

Once again, Kickstarter.com is proving itself to be a mobile filmmaker’s best friend. This time around, SerialKickers is pitching the ArchMount, a sturdy, lightweight, portable tripod mount for your iPad. There are other iPad tripod mounts on the market (such as The Padcaster and the MovieMount), but the ArchMount takes a unique approach. Rather than providing a solid frame in which to insert your iPad, the ArchMount snaps in place around your device using elastic cords. Is that a good thing? Well, according to its developer, the ArchMount is: Minimalistic in design Small in form factor Sturdy and secure Inexpensive

Only days left to support the Stabil-i iPhone Stabilizer!

I’m not sure which is crazier: The fact that it’s been over a month since my last post, or that three of my last four posts (including this one) have been about Kickstarter.com campaigns!  Without further ado, let’s get to it! The Stabil-i needs your help if it’s going to make it to the marketplace. The product’s kickstarter campaign is rapidly nearing its end, with only a few days left. To learn more about the Stabil-i, read up on its history, and to “back the project,” visit kickstarter right now. Time is running out!The team at Austin’s Dynamo Innovations Group have

Picosteady: the NEW Steadicam-like Stabilizer for iPhone

Shaky shots got you down? Sounds like you need a stabilizer! Since the iPhone line added its own digital stabilization, we’ve enjoyed a general reduction in jittery videos, but there’s just no way to get smooth footage without the addition of a stabilizing accessory. We’ve covered many on HHH, and are working with a few more for the upcoming book, but here’s a new one that looks quite promising. It’s small, versatile, and sports a moderate price tag. The Picosteady will run you $139 (plus shipping) through its Kickstarter campaign. The price will rise to $179 once its Kickstarter campaign

New on Kickstarter: Daylight Viewfinder for iPhone!

It seems like every 30 seconds, there’s another iPhone accessory launching on Kickstarter. Most are insanely silly, but every once in a while, a unique idea catches fire (the Glif is a great example). Now, Milwaukie’s Paul Anderson has introduced a Kickstarer campaign to fund his new iPhone accessory called the Daylight Viewfinder. The device attaches to your iPhones display, and allows for glare-free viewing while snapping photos, or more importantly, shooting video. The gizmo works in conjunction with a custom designed camera app. After glancing at the Kickstarter page, my first thought was “pffft.”  But, my second thought was, “Hey, wait

Mini iPhone mount Tiltpod makes its Kickstarter deal sweeter!

AppAdvice.com has just posted a story about a new mini iPhone tripod-ish mount called the Tiltpod. Here’s the short version: It’s a key-chain ready, mini mount that uses a magnetic quick-release. Looks like it’s best used on fairly flat surfaces. And, since the developer has temporarily lowered the funding price, it can be yours for 10 smackers. Check out the full story, or head directly to the Tiltpod Kickstarter page.

Introducing the GLIF iPhone Tripod Mount

Looking for an easy and elegant way to mount your iPhone 4 on a tripod? Of course you are!  Sure, there’s a few awesome iPhone camera grips out there, but most offer tripod connectivity as a secondary feature.  So, what’s a filmmaker to do?  Get a GLIF! GLIF is a new iPhone tripod mount (iPhone 4 only) that doubles as a handy-dandy table-top stand.  It’s small, sleek, and coming very soon.  But, as cool as this accessory may be, the story of its creation is even cooler!
