The New GLIF tripod mount looks awesome!

UPDATE – MAY 30, 2017: Having successfully wrapped up its Kickstarter campaign, the GLIF is now available for purchase directly from the Studio Neat website! The GLIF will run you $28, while the full set with hand grip and wrist strap will set you back $55. The GLIF, one of the first iPhone camera accessories is still one of the best. And it’s about to get even better! Just in case you’ve been avoiding every article ever written about mobile filmmaking, the GLIF is a pocket-sized tripod mount for your iPhone.

iWorld 2014 – The new GLIF iPhone Tripod Mount

Studio Neat, one of my favorite companies, was back at the expo this year showing off their newly revamped iPhone tripod mount, the GLIF ($30). Unlike previous versions that were designed to hold a specific iPhone model, the updated GLIF is adjustable, meaning it can hold just about any smartphone, with or without a cover. Most universal tripod mounts feature a spring-loaded clamp to hold your device in place. This means you can instantly swap out one smartphone for another — a nice benefit most mobile filmmakers will never need. The downside of this approach is that the clamp may

iWorld 2014 – Grip and Shoot Bluetooth mount for iPhone

The Grip and Shoot is a re-imagined, Bluetooth enabled, mighty awesome pistol-grip for iPhone videographers. While I’ve seen dozens of iPhone handles meant to offer some much needed stabilization, the Grip and Shoot is the first such mount to bring something exciting to the table — wireless control. The handle features three well-positioned buttons that provide wireless control over your iPhone camera’s zoom and shutter functions! As a result, not only will your videos have smoother zooms, but your other hand can remain free for whatever else is required (Pointing a mic? Aiming a light? Holding back zombies?). For me,

iWorld 2014 – Optrix PhotoPro X for iPhone 5 & 5S

Thinking about getting a GoPro? WAIT! If you’ve already got an iPhone, you should definitely check out the Optrix PhotoProX — a rugged, waterproof iPhone case (to 33 feet) with interchangeable lenses. In addition to the camera case itself, Optrix offers a huge variety of accessories including bike mounts, tripod connectors, suction mounts, chest mounts, and much more. My only advice: Make sure you’re not expecting an important call while shooting your action adventure! It might be tough to get to your phone while it’s mounted to the hood of your car.

iWorld 2014 – Spring Tripod Mount by Square Jellyfish

In the market for a portable, lightweight, collapsible iPhone or iPad tripod? Square Jellyfish has you covered! In this video, you’ll see a quick demo of their best selling Spring Tripod Mount Combo Kit. Looks pretty sweet! Whoops! Just realized I left the “fish” out of “Square Jellyfish” in the video. That’s what happens when you don’t sleep.

New Adjustable GLIF Tripod Mount fits nearly any Smartphone and Case

Studio Neat’s Glif, one of the very first and most popular tripod mounts for the iPhone, just received a major update.  The new model is adjustable, and will therefore work with nearly any size smartphone, with our without a case.  Rather than mount along the iPhone’s edge, like previous Glif models, the new Glif clamps down on the top and bottom.  Using the included wrench, the Glif can be made shorter or taller, allowing for a wider range of sizes. According to Studio Neat’s website, the new version will fit any device between 58.4–86.4mm wide and 3.1–12.7mm thick. The new Glif ($30)

O.P.N. for June 7th, 2013

Today’s Other People’s News is more of a catch-up session than anything else. I’ve been offline for a while (working and then revamping the site), so I’ve fallen behind on a few stories. You may already know about this stuff, but just in case… Mashable reported on the Pocket Tripod a new portable iPhone “tripod” on Kickstarter that folds down to the size of a credit card. While it’s more suited to watching content than shooting it, I imagine it coming in handy. CheezyCam featured a pair of YouTube reviews of the Rode SmartLav, a lavaliere microphone that plugs directly into your iPhone,

Just a little over 2 days left to grab XiStera (tripod mount & lens kit)

For a $25 Kickstarter pledge, you can get your hands on your very own XiStera multitool (but you’ve only got a few days left).  This little doodad will give your iPhone 5 portrait and landscape tripod mounts, as well as an external lens kit (fish eye, wide angle, macro). If that weren’t enough, the tool also provides a bottle opener, portrait and landscape stands, a key chain attachment, an ear bud wrap, a capacitive stylus, and even an option for an external LED light. If Dr. Frankenstein had an iPhone, and didn’t feel like getting a GLIF, olloclip, MicroLite, and
