Apps & Accessories from my MojoFest Presentation

Thanks to everyone who came out for this year’s MojoFest in Galway, Ireland. It was an incredible event overflowing with talented, creative and friendly people from around the globe. I know I tend to speak quickly while on stage (there’s a lot to cover!), so I thought I’d share a short list of the apps and accessories I mentioned during my presentation. Several of these links are for iPhone/iPad versions of apps, however many of the apps are also available in the Google Play store for Android. It’s worth a search if that’s your platform of choice! Tiffen adds 58mm Support to their Totally Adorable Listec Promptware Teleprompter

If you’ve been lusting after Tiffen’s Listec Promptware PW-04 Teleprompter (a bite-size contraption that turns your iPhone or iPod touch  into a very portable through-the-glass prompter), but you’ve been holding off because your video camera’s lens is just too dang large… Behold! Tiffen has announced a new version that will support lens sizes up to 58mm.

DataVideo’s iPhone & iPad Teleprompters

It was a slow year for iDevices at this year’s DV Expo in Pasadena (thought not as slow as last year). Overall, the DV Expo a great show, but it’s been a little light on iOS products.  Only one company snagged my attention.

Use your Kindle as a teleprompter

Imagine this… you’re relaxing comfortably in a lounge chair, reading a favorite ebook on your Kindle.  When suddenly, a video shoot breaks out right in front of you!  Making matters worse, the on-camera talent can’t remember his/her lines!  What a horrible (though incredibly unlikely) turn of events! Thank goodness you’ve got your Kindle on hand! Big thanks to Twitter tweeter @michaelbuddy for putting this eBookNewser story on my radar!

Mac|Life reports on DYI Teleprompter for Flip Camera

Using an iPhone (running the awesome ProPrompter app), a metal bookend, a Dynex Bracket, and some Velcro, Clint Bradford was able to put together a nifty little teleprompter rig for his Filp HD video camera.  Check out this Mac|Life Story for the details, and a link to a PDF containing the step-by-step instructions.  Or, take a look at Clint’s website.

From the Director’s Chair: Where The Hell Have I Been?!

So, as you may have noticed, there weren’t many posts these past few weeks. Thought I’d take a second and explain why. Don’t worry… I’ll keep it short (ish), and won’t force you to watch any vacation slides. In a nutshell, I’ve been working my ass off. Here’s a few highlights. Chaos Theory, the production company I co-own, produced a couple promotional videos for the current American Idols Live tour. I got to direct the top 10 Idol finalists (including the winner, Lee). Them’s is some talented kids! We used the ProPrompter teleprompter app on my iPad, along with the

NAB ’10 – ProPrompter HDi

Another tradeshow, another pair of wicked-cool announcements from Bodelin, the company behind ProPrompter, the current champ of teleprompting apps. First off, the ProPrompter app now supports two types of syncing, making remote control and multi-camera shoots a breeze.  Secondly, Bodelin was showing off their new ProPrompter HDi which turns your shiny new iPad into the ultimate through-the-lens teleprompter.

ProPrompter gets F-A-S-T, resized, and CAPPED.

Bodelin has released an update for its outstanding iPhone teleprompter app, ProPrompter.  Version 1.2 brings some welcome changes, including new font sizes, additional scroll speeds (faster & slower), and the ability to switch your text to ALL CAPS. When we reviewed the ProPrompter Wing a few weeks back, we would have loved more font sizes, and a faster scroll. I’m don’t think the All Caps feature would have made much of a difference for us, but it’s a nice option to have. If you already own ProPrompter, don’t hesitate downloading the update.  If you’d like to know more about ProPrompter,

Product Spotlight: The ProPrompter Wing

A few weeks back we posted a story featuring apps that can turn your iPhone into a handy-dandy teleprompter.  Our favorite application was (and still is) Bodelin’s ProPrompter ($9.99). It’s flexible, loaded with features, and scrolls text smoothly.  Despite the convenience of a teleprompter in your pocket, one problem remained.  How do you keep your iPhone close to your camera lens while shooting?

DV EXPO: Autocue QTV Teleprompter

While traversing the expo isles, I came across a new handheld teleprompter from Autocue Qtv. It looks pretty solid, plays nice with your iPhone, and I’m sure it would give your on-camera talent a boost. That’s the good news.  The bad news is the high price ($899). For many pros, the expense is worth it. Aaron Brady from Autocue Qtv can tell you more about it. This is the first teleprompter hardware I’ve mentioned on HHH that employs beam-splitting glass (the technique used in most professional situations). If you want to learn more about this sort of teleprompter, watch the end
