Introducing MOJOCON, The Mobile Journalism Conference!

I am profoundly excited to announce that I’ll be a guest speaker at the very first Mojocon, hitting Dublin, Ireland on March 27th! What is MojoCon? Allow me to quote the event’s website: MojoCon Ireland is the first international conference focusing on mobile journalism, mobile filmmaking and mobile photography all in one event. The future is mobile, the future is now. This is a two-day event with a list of guest speakers that reads like a Who’s Who of mobile journalism & filmmaking.  I’m proud to be included among their ranks.  If you’re interested in mobile media making, this is event you’ve been waiting for. My session “Smartphone Filmmakers”

I’m Speaking at Macworld / iWorld this Thursday!

Going to Macworld this week?  Me too! I’m thrilled and honored to announce that I’ve been asked to participate in a discussion panel at this week’s Macworld / iWorld Expo in San Francisco! I’ll be sitting with some absurdly talented people, discussing mobile photography and videography workflows. The panel is being held on the Macworld “Main Stage” (which sure sounds big) at 1pm, this Thursday, March 27th. If you can make it, please stop by and say hello. I always enjoy meeting HHH readers and like-minded filmmakers. Here are the panel specifics snagged straight from the Macworld/iWorld website. Hope to

My “i, Filmmaker” column made its debut in today’s issue of Eye Chart and will continue to appear in future Friday editions. Which reminds me, if you’re visiting HHH for the first time as a result of reading my column in today’s Eye Chart: WELCOME!

Spinning Plates is in Theaters NOW!

As you may know from my earlier posts and tweets, I’ve spent much of the past few years producing a feature documentary called Spinning Plates. Directed by my close friend and business partner Joseph Levy, Spinning Plates is an intimate look at food, family, legacy and passion. It explores three extraordinary restaurants and the incredible people who bring them to life. The film has won several festival awards, and garnered some terrific press. I’m profoundly proud of this film and the team that helped create it. I’m thrilled to report that Spinning Plates opened in Los Angeles, New York, and

iPhoneography.com shutters its shutters

Damn!  A great blog is about to drop off the intertubes.  iPhoneography.com will be closing up shop at the end of October.  With Glyn Evans at the wheel, iPhoneography.com has been reporting on iOS based still photography since 2008. According to yesterday’s post, Glyn has decided to focus more on shooting and less on writing. When HHH launched in 2009, there were very few quality websites devoted to iOS use in the visual arts. iPhoneography was one of the first, and I’m very sad to see it go. I wish Glyn all the best in his future endeavours!

Welcome to Hand Held Hollywood 3.0!

Because the site is rapidly approaching its 4th anniversary, I decided it was time to give the code a much-needed overhaul. Just adding a little chrome siding wasn’t going to cut it this time. When considering the new design, I thought about all the sites I enjoy reading most. I’m not talking about content — I’m just talking about the experience of reading. Most of the sites I enjoy reading are clean, simple, and generous with space. They feel lightweight. By comparison, the old HHH design felt bloated and heavy, and never looked ideal on iPhones and iPads. So, I
