CinePro is the hottest new video camera app on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

There’s a video camera app in town, and this one is a doozy! CinePro for iPhone offers an enormous degree of control, hidden behind in an absurdly intuitive interface, all for very little cash. In addition to controls for zoom, frame rate, ISO (say what?!), white balance, exposure, focus, and aspect ratio, the app also offers a huge selection of real-time filters (most of which require an additional purchase). Frankly, I don’t really care that much about the filters (even though I bought every one). I fell in love because of the clean layout, and ease of use. A recent update added

KillerKeys for iPad Can Control Video Apps on your Mac & PC

There are approximately 3,000,000 booths at the NAB expo in Vegas (slight exaggeration), so very it’s easy to miss something cool, especially when major exhibitors are assaulting your senses with strobe lights and showgirls.  Thankfully, I DIDN’T miss KillerKeys, a brilliant suite of apps for Mac, PC and iPad. The desktop version of KillerKeys runs alongside your favorite apps (Photoshop, Premiere, Word, etc.) and allows you to create and customize floating pallets of shortcut buttons linked to application functions that would normally be buried within nested menus, or unfamiliar dialog boxes.  For example, let’s say you’re a Photoshop user, but

SketchPad Pro Just Landed on KickStarter!

We first covered SketchPad Pro, the awesome looking storyboard app from Tikibone, in October of 2010. Back then, we reported it was coming soon. Now, we’re happy to tell you that it’s almost soon! But, before SketchPad Pro hits the App Store, Tikibone needs your help. To that end, the app now has its very own Kickstarter campaign! If you’re a storyboard artist (or aspiring to be one), and have been waiting for this puppy to be released, please consider helping Roger and Scott raise the money needed to finish development, and secure publishing.

SCOOP: Movie★Slate teams with Timecode Buddy for dead-accurate iPad & iPhone slates!

“Wonder Twin Powers Activate! Form of: a Crazy-Awesome, Super-Accurate Timecode Slate!” You heard it here first, folks (unless you heard it someplace else first). PureBlend Software, makers of Movie★Slate ($24.99), one of our favorite iOS apps, has joined forces with Timecode Systems Limited, makers of the Timecode Buddy System, to ensure that your iPad and iPhone slates will ALWAYS have accurate timecode. This is BIG news! In the past, the Movie★Slate app could get its source timecode in a few different ways.  The most rudimentary method would be via manually entry (this never resulted in truly accurate sync). Thankfully, a later version of Movie★Slate added a far more

Cut Notes for iPad can now be used with Final Cut Pro X!

I dig Cut Notes ($7.99).  It’s an iPad app we’ve covered once or twice before. In a nutshell, Cut Notes let’s you use your iPad to quickly create a list of edit notes that can be imported into Final Cut Pro 7 as timeline markers. Making it all possible, is a conversion application for the Mac called Cut Notes Marker Importer.  The Mac app imports the file produced by Cut Notes, and then converts it into an XML file that can be read by Final Cut Pro 7.  And now, thanks to an update to the Marker Importer, your notes can now be brought

Apple’s iMovie will now work on your iPad 1!

File this one under “whaaa?” There was a time when Apple’s consumer grade video editing app, iMovie ($4.99), was unavailable on the original iPad.  If you wanted to bask in the app’s cheesy glory, you were required to own an iPad 2 (presumably due to the extra strain on the processor). But, with the release of iMovie 1.3, that restriction has been lifted! Soccer moms rejoice! So, iPad 1 owner, are you excited to create your very first iMovie Trailer? Not so fast… It seems Apple still has you sitting at the kid’s table.  While you’re able to edit video

Should you upgrade to the New iPad? A filmmaker’s perspective.

I’ve been banging on Apple’s newest iDevice since Friday morning, and I’m ready to offer my answer to this burning question: Should mobile filmmakers run screaming to the nearest Apple store to grab the new iPad? Answer: Yes. There. I just saved you the trouble of scrolling to the bottom of this post. You’re welcome.  With that out of the way, let’s take a quick look at Cupertino’s latest offering. RETINA DISPLAY The most significant aspect of the upgrade is the iPad’s new Retina Display. It contains 4 times as many pixels as its predecessor, for a total resolution of

Nomad Brush lets pre-vis artists ‘PAINT’ on their iPad

Here’s another cool-as-hell iPad accessory I found at iWorld. The Nomad Brush is an iPad stylus that looks AND FEELS like a traditional paintbrush. Perfect for tablet toting previsualization artists who come from a painting background. I imagine it would be a terrific partner for painting apps like SketchBook Pro.

Mini iPhone mount Tiltpod makes its Kickstarter deal sweeter!

AppAdvice.com has just posted a story about a new mini iPhone tripod-ish mount called the Tiltpod. Here’s the short version: It’s a key-chain ready, mini mount that uses a magnetic quick-release. Looks like it’s best used on fairly flat surfaces. And, since the developer has temporarily lowered the funding price, it can be yours for 10 smackers. Check out the full story, or head directly to the Tiltpod Kickstarter page.
